Liverpool concerned about Atletico's stadium ban

10/14/2008 - Liverpool, England (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Liverpool has written to UEFA to express their "extreme concern" at the stadium ban which will result in its Champions League trip to face Atletico Madrid taking place at a neutral venue.

The Reds will take on the Spanish side at a venue at least 185 miles away from Madrid next Wednesday.

UEFA have forced the relocation of the game to an as yet unconfirmed venue after hitting Atletico with a two-game home ban following disturbances during and after their Champions League victory over Marseille at the Vicente Calderon on Oct. 1.

"To say the decision is a bit late in the day, is to put it mildly," Liverpool Chief Executive Rick Parry told the club's official website. "We have 3,000 fans going to the game and we're extremely concerned for our supporters, the vast majority of whom have already made travel arrangements.

"If the match is played at least [185 miles] from Madrid, it will cause major disruption, inconvenience and large additional expense for our fans. UEFA have to take their needs into account when making a final decision on the game."
