11/17/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Detroit Red Wings will try record a point in their sixth straight game when they welcome the slumping Edmonton Oilers to Joe Louis Arena for tonight's opener of a home-and-home series.
The Red Wings, who are leading the Central Division with 25 points, are 4-0-1 in the month of November and are coming off a 2-0 road trip to Florida.
Detroit earned a pair of close victories in the Sunshine State, defeating Tampa Bay, 4-3, on Thursday and posting a 3-2 decision over the Florida Panthers the following night.
Johan Franzen's power-play goal early in the third period proved to be the game-winner in Detroit's win over the Panthers on Friday at BankAtlantic Center.
Marian Hossa scored two goals and Niklas Kronwall registered two assists for Detroit. Ty Conklin made 25 saves to post the win on a night off for No. 1 goaltender Chris Osgood.
Detroit is surprisingly just 3-1-2 as the host this season and will be back in the Motor City for just a short time. The Red Wings will begin a three-game road trip Thursday in Edmonton.
Edmonton comes into tonight having dropped two straight and four of its last six contests. The Oilers did earn a point in their last outing, as they lost in a shootout to visiting Colorado.
Darcy Tucker scored the game-tying goal in the last minute of regulation, as well as the game-winner in the fifth round of the shootout to lift the Avalanche to Saturday's 3-2 win at Rexall Place.
With Edmonton holding a 2-1 lead late in the third period, Colorado had a 6- on-3 opportunity. The Oilers' Fernando Pisani was in the penalty box for hooking and Ethan Moreau was there for tripping, and the Avs pulled goaltender Peter Budaj. The move paid off, and with just 11 ticks left Tucker tipped a shot under Oilers goaltender Dwayne Roloson.
Roloson stopped 30 shots in the losing effort for the Oilers.
The Oilers, who are 6-6-0 as the visiting team, are playing the first of two straight on the road tonight. They'll also visit Columbus on Tuesday night.
Edmonton has taken two straight and five of the last eight meetings with the Red Wings. The Oilers have also come out on top in two of their last three trips to Motown.
