10/14/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The San Jose Sharks will aim for the first 4-0 start to a season in franchise history tonight, when they welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets to HP Pavilion.
The Sharks are 3-0-0 for the second time in three seasons, having also began the 2006-07 campaign with three straight victories. San Jose beat visiting Anaheim in its season opener on Thursday and then swept Los Angeles in a home- and-home series.
The most recent victory came in LA on Sunday as Brian Boucher stopped 21 shots for his 15th career shutout to lead the Sharks to the 1-0 decision.
Lukas Kaspar scored his first NHL goal to provide the game's only offense. Kaspar, a first-round draft pick of the Sharks in 2004, scored at 9:56 of the second period on a 3-on-2 break, blasting a shot into the net from above the right circle.
Meanwhile, Columbus posted a 5-4 overtime victory in Dallas to begin the season on Friday before getting handed a setback in Phoenix the following night. The Blue Jackets are beginning the season on a three-game road trip, but will have their home opener the next time out as they'll welcome Nashville to Nationwide Arena this Friday.
The Blue Jackets were handed a 3-1 decision by the Coyotes on Saturday and Olli Jokinen led Phoenix with a goal and an assist at Jobing.com Arena.
Derick Brassard tallied his second goal of the season for the Blue Jackets, while Pascal Leclaire let in the three goals on 30 shots in defeat.
In other news, Blue Jackets center Michael Peca was suspended indefinitely by the NHL for making contact with an on-ice official. Peca was assessed a game misconduct penalty at 5:21 of the second period of Friday's win over Dallas. The alternate captain has appealed the suspension, but will remain on the bench pending a hearing scheduled for next week.
The Sharks went 3-1 against the Blue Jackets last year and have taken 10 of 14 in the series overall. Columbus has lost seven straight in San Jose and hasn't won at the Shark Tank since posting an OT decision on January 8, 2004.

Oddsmakers at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com currently have the Chiefs listed as 7-point favorites versus the 49ers.
